Ethical Fashion in Action
There's a lot of talk about ethical clothing in the fashion industry. The product chain in some companies is often ambiguous and as a consumer its easy to ignore where our clothing comes from and the conditions in which people work to make what we wear everyday. Ethics has always been high on our values list at Zeenya and it drove our decision to chose Brazil as the country to import from. But until now we haven't actually witnessed the ethical conditions that we stand by, in person, so we are excited to share this experience with you.
Recently we have been extremely fortunate to be able to visit Brazil to meet in person our suppliers and the people who make our clothing. We were able to visit the company that makes the fabric we use and the place where our clothing is made. As the media has been saying, times are hard economically and politically in Brazil. Inflation is on the rise, and it's uncertain times for the country as they receive a new government with recent elections. It's a country where the rich minority can easily take advantage of the poor majority. So we needed to know for ourselves exactly who/how/where our clothing was being made.
We are extremely proud to be working with a wife and husband team who employ two seamstresses to create our clothing. Small businesses supporting each other. We visited the place where our clothing gets made. The head seamstress works from a room at the back of her home, where she can juggle work, raising her family and manage her own time in a way that works for her. She's also a trained lawyer by education but loves design and clothing so has chosen to follow her passion. The other seamstress comes and works from there too. Its a good space where family and work combine in a place of laughter and love.
We know that our clothing is made with love. That makes us so proud to bring it to you.
The other cool thing about meeting the company who produces our fabrics was to get know more about our fabrics themselves as well as how the beautiful prints are printed onto the fabric. More about this soon, but we are proud to say our fabric is eco-friendly as well as being made with love.
