Journey to Spirit: Introducing Team MAMA's

Meet Team MAMA's - Megan, Ainsley, Mel and Amie. These four women are doing the 2020 Hawkes Bay Spirited Women Adventure Race and we are lucky enough to be following their Journey to Spirit. We wanted to upgrade one team's experience for the event and Team MAMA's were the lucky winners!

These ladies are based out of Hamilton and have been participating in the Spirited Women - All Women's Adventure Race for a couple of years now. For most of the team this will be their 3rd race together. The team met through their children - at one life stage or another and they get together to support and train whenever they can.

Megan is the natural team leader - in 2016 she was in the Redwoods in Rotorua for an Xterra training camp when she saw all these women with these numbered bibs riding through the forest and having a great time together. She found out more details and when the entries opened for Taupo in 2017, she had the team together and ready to go. Way outside of her normal comfort zone, Megan knew this would be possible do with the support of others. Which is what Spirited Women is all about. Pushing personal boundaries and doing it with the support of an awesome team of ladies. Each of the team members bring different strengths and they play to these and support each other all the way. Ainsley is the navigator with Mel acting as the backup, Amie is quick on her feet so she's the checkpoint collector and Megan is chief organiser and ensures everyone is fed and watered.

Thanks to the other sponsors of Journey to Spirit - Salming, Goodbye Ouch and Ground Effect

We caught up with Team MAMA's at the end of October to dish out the goodies offered by Zeenya, Salming NZGround Effect and Goodbye Ouch to help get them onto the start line. We also linked the team up with a friend of ours, Cam, who came along to deliver a bike maintenance session on the side of the Waikato River.

Check out this short video introducing the ladies and their team roles and for a bit of fun, find out what type of pick'n'mix lolly they would be to describe their team roles.
