Honouring the Season You're In
This time of year always brings a bit of reflection, doesn’t it?
What we did, what we didn’t, what we thought we’d achieve… and what life had in mind instead.
If you’re looking back and feeling a little disappointed or “behind,” take a breath.
You’re not alone - and you’re not doing it wrong.
Where you are right now doesn’t undo where you’ve been - and it definitely doesn’t limit where you’re going.
Life isn’t linear.
Training isn’t linear.
And motivation sure as anything isn’t linear.
Some seasons you’re unstoppable.
Some seasons you’re just trying to get through each day.
And sometimes, you’re “just walking.”
But let me just say… there’s no just about it.
Walking when you’re tired, stressed, overwhelmed, injured, anxious, or rebuilding?
That is discipline.
That is choosing movement when staying still would be easier.
Walking is wildly underrated. Especially the kind you take when you almost talked yourself out of it.
It’s a bridge. It gets you from “I can’t” to “I’m finding my way again.”
Every step counts, even when it doesn’t look like much from the outside.
And for the walkers out there who move daily as their fitness - you’re not “doing the bare minimum.”
You’re building endurance, protecting your mental health, supporting recovery, and keeping yourself in the game. Consistency is a superpower, no matter the pace.
So don’t dismiss the season you’re in.
Don’t downplay your effort.
Don’t apologise for going slower, needing rest, or taking a different path than you planned.
Instead, ask yourself:
What do I need right now?
A breather? A smaller goal? A walk instead of a run? More colour in my day?
Whatever the answer is - honour it. You’re allowed to be human.
You can rebuild.
You can restart.
You can shift gears without losing who you are.
And you absolutely belong here. Whether you’re running PBs, walking the block, or taking tiny steps back toward yourself.
So whatever movement looks like for you right now…
** Honour it. Own it. Celebrate it. **
And hey, make sure Strava knows you crushed that walk (even if it’s just to the mailbox).
